ESG Materiality Assessment & Sustainability Strategy Analysis

MBA Sustainability Strategy Project | John Deere Case Study

As part of my MBA coursework, I conducted an ESG materiality assessment and sustainability strategy analysis using John Deere as a case study to explore how a global agriculture technology company might navigate evolving stakeholder expectations, sustainability risks, and long-term value creation.

I evaluated more than 10 stakeholder groups, assessing their interests, influence, and potential areas of collaboration. Drawing on GRI and SASB reporting frameworks, I analyzed current ESG controversies, shareholder proposals, regulatory developments, and industry trends to identify the issues most likely to shape business performance and stakeholder trust.

I developed a mock executive-level presentation that prioritized the company's three most material sustainability issues, examining their associated risks, opportunities, financial implications, implementation considerations, and stakeholder impacts. The project also included stakeholder mapping, sustainability benchmarking, scenario planning, and business landscape analysis, culminating in strategic recommendations for engagement, sustainability positioning, and long-term resilience.

Skills Demonstrated: ESG & Sustainability Strategy, Materiality Assessment, Stakeholder Mapping, Sustainability Reporting (GRI/SASB), Scenario Planning, Risk & Opportunity Analysis, Executive-Level Communications, Strategic Research & Recommendations.
